Texts and Readings in Physical Sciences
The aim of this series is to provide high quality reading material to advanced students of physics and related disciplines in India. It will publish books on important topics in the physical sciences written by well-known scientists and teachers. Some of these books could be used as texts for courses while others could be supplements to the regular course material. In either case the books will attempt to explain to the student why the subject is important, how it developed, and where it is used.Students of physics from the final year Honours to the Ph.D. level will find this series useful. So will college and university teachers who want to augment their old courses with new material.
Though the standards of exposition will be high, the material will not be developed at such a speed that only the very best students can keep pace. Care will be taken to ensure that the background material not found in standard texts is clearly explained. This would make the books accessible to a large audience.
